What it costs

Collecting money is not a paid feature here and never will be. It is free on the Free plan, with no card to start and no cap on how much you collect. We are not going to charge a volunteer committee for the privilege of getting paid.
Collecting is free on every plan, including Free, and the fee schedule is public: the family paying online covers one service fee at checkout, 3.5% plus 49¢ by card or 1.5% capped at $8 straight from their bank account, always the cheapest way. That fee covers Stripe's processing and MemberCairn's share (at most 0.6% plus 19¢ on card, at most $3.74 on bank), which is exactly how the software stays free. Flip a switch and the pack absorbs it instead. For comparison, Scoutbook's own online payments charge families a flat 3%.

We never touch your money.
Handing a volunteer committee’s money to software you found on the internet deserves a straight answer, so here is exactly how it works.
The money is the pack’s from the first payment
Every payment goes to a Stripe account in your pack’s name, not into a MemberCairn account that pays you later. We never hold your funds, so there is no balance of yours on our books and nothing of yours to lose if we go away.
We never see a card number
Families type their card into Stripe’s own checkout, not into a MemberCairn form. Card and bank details never touch our servers, so a MemberCairn breach cannot expose them.
The money trail belongs to you
Payouts, refunds, disputes, and bank details live in the pack’s own Stripe dashboard, which your treasurer signs into directly. Refunds are yours to issue, not something you ask us for.
None of this is a policy we could quietly change. It is how the payments are wired, and it is the same on the Free plan as on any other.
Money goes out too
A volunteer fronts the money. Get it back to them.
Someone always ends up buying the derby track lumber or the campout firewood out of their own pocket, then chasing a check for weeks. On the Organizer and Guide plans, they just email a photo of the receipt.

- Never. Every payment goes to a payment account in your pack’s name, so the money is yours from the first payment and there is no balance of yours on our books. Payouts, refunds, and bank details live in an account your treasurer signs into directly.
- What does it cost to collect?
- Collecting is free on every plan, including Free, with no cap. The paying family covers one small service fee, shown to them before they choose how to pay, and paying straight from a bank account is always the cheapest option.
- Can we still take cash and checks?
- Yes. Record what arrives by cash or check against the same collection, so one list still answers who has paid.
